Black Dragon Fighting Society Reunion

Black Dragon Fighting Society Reunion SeminarAnyone who knows me can attest to two things. I’m old. That’s one. I’m old enough to remember ‘back when’. The other is that I am a history buff. Not world history. Not national history but martial arts history.

Original Black Dragons

I’m told that I was part of history in the martial arts. Not because I made such a major impact but because I was there to see some of the transitions that shaped the martial arts in our nation. Because of my preoccupation with this history I am considered something of an authority in the area of martial arts development in the Midwest. I am the traditional Historian for Worldwide Dojo, a major international publication and I have been recognized as a History General by The Museum of Sports Karate, both great honors.

Much is said about the martial arts in the fifties, sixties and seventies. There was a lot of controversy in those days, especially in the Midwest in general and Chicago in particular. Out of this tumultuous period came some really quality martial artists. Of those some are still active and are contributing to the growth of the arts even at this late date. I feel that these are amongst the most talented and least recognized group of masters and sensei of that formative era.Even till this day there are unanswered questions surrounding these individuals. They were a tough and wild bunch of fighters in those days but most have grown to be great masters and grandmasters in their chosen disciplines. Rumors still circulate about them. On one hand they are criticized and ostracized. On the other hand they are praised and much recognized. Who are these men really? What have they accomplished and what are they doing today? Why not find out for yourself? The Original IFAA Black Dragon Fighting Society will be convening in a reunion gathering in Lexington, KY from October 5TH thru the 7TH. Learn from these masters from that bygone era. Be part of the training and the seminars. Talk to and learn from them first hand. Be a part of history.

A number of martial artists will be honored and there will be several new inductions into the organization. Since I am the one writing this particular piece I’m going to take advantage and speak of one of the new inductees. Ms. Dana Stamos of World Wide Dojo, USADojo and The Martial Directory will be made a new member. Ms. Stamos has been a continuing asset to the martial arts giving a voice and a forum to many who would otherwise go unheard. Ms. Stamos is a sister and personal friend to me and many others. She has been and continues to be a blessing to the martial art community. I personally look forward to having her as a member of our ranks.

I am looking forward to seeing many of my old friends, fellow martial art practitioners and teachers at this event. I hope to also see you there. It’s going to be a wonderful time of learning and sharing. See you there.
