You have heard the commandment, “Thou shall not kill.” With few exceptions, however, most major modern translations, and all Jewish translations of the original Hebrew, interprets the commandment as, “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13). Have the rabbis, ministers and priests of the Judeo-Christian Ethos been hypocrites for the past 5,000 years when they sent men off to war? Did they say, “Thou shall not kill” one day and then send them off to battle the next? Now, the Seven Day Adventists, Mennonites, Shakers, and Quakers believe in the strict, literal 385

interpretation of this translation of the Sixth Commandment, and in the end they may be right. The vast majority of the Judeo-Christian Ethos, however, understand it to mean, “Thou shall not murder.”

While we are here on earth, we all place our “bets” in the great “spiritual lottery” of the afterlife. After we die, everyone from the atheist to the most devout believer will know if their bets have paid off. For the sake of argument, let us assume that there is a God and He is the God of the Judeo-Christian heritage. If God is powerful enough to have His will manifested on earth by the majority of his believers, then maybe the “truth” should be found in the overwhelming majority of believers who went to war against Hitler, or who bless the police officers who guard them with deadly force every night.

And that great majority of believers have felt that God’s commandment is “Thou shalt not murder.”

Do you know the difference between murder and killing? If you do, maybe God does too.

As seen in the recent Boston bombing tragedy, past intelligence is very important when attempting to find a lead or capture a suspectperson who is believed to be committing a crime, about to commit a crime, or has committed a crime.. On the 17th of April around 1:00pm CNN reporter John King told Wolf Blitzer that his source (Human Intellaw enforcement and military abbreviation for intelligence.), a law enforcement official, told him that they have a suspectperson who is believed to be committing a crime, about to commit a crime, or has committed a crime. in a surveillancederived from two French words. The first word sur means "over," and the second word veil means "mask." Thus, the combined words literally mean "mask over." The definition is to watch a person without that person's knowledge. video from Lord and Taylor department store and that the suspectperson who is believed to be committing a crime, about to commit a crime, or has committed a crime. was a “dark-skinned individual”. He stated that there was more to the description, but for sensitivity purposes, he was not going to say anymore at this time. Within minutes of the explosion the New York Post posted that 12 people were dead while other media outlets posted only 2 dead.

Patrick Ford, in his introduction to Intelligence: A Synthesis of Public Domain Sources, stated “It is what people do with data and information that gives them the special quality that we casually call “intelligence.” (Patrick J. Ford, 2007)

Intelligence is not information, intelligence is a cycle of workings to produce the Intellaw enforcement and military abbreviation for intelligence.. The cycle consist of the following:

Direction - what needs to be focused on by the agency, what needs to be collected, priorities and emphasis, involving the head of the agency or senior management/executives and those who conduct the intelligence…Without Direction from the top, the intelligence processes, and efforts, are bound to fail

Collection - some regard as the easiest of the intelligence cycle. Obtaining information by whatever means in order to meet objectives of the direction phase (collection plans, specific requirements). Technical (electronic), human, printed materials are general categories of potential sources.

Processing - Perhaps the most difficult phase. Requires integration of sources, comparison with other information, historical. analysis, and ratings (source reliability and information validity)

Dissemination - Now that you’ve got it…What do you do with it? Getting your product out on time and to the right people. Who should not receive your reports? Type of reporting (verbal, briefing, document, graphics, computerized by presentation or email), length of report, security considerations

As stated above the processing part of the cycle is most difficult because when evaluating the evidence it’s important to take three steps:

evaluating the source

evaluating the communications channel through which the info arrived

evaluating the evidence itself.

When evaluating the source there are also three questions you must ask yourself:

does the source have knowledge about the info

did the source have access needed to get the info

is the source bias or have vested interest?

When evaluating the communication channel, the best way to get the info is from the primary source. While evaluating the evidence you must think is it reliable, does it have credibility, and does it have facts?

It was due to IMINT (imagery Intellaw enforcement and military abbreviation for intelligence.) that we had a true description of the suspects and was able to get HUMINT (Human Intellaw enforcement and military abbreviation for intelligence.) on who they were.

“Homicide Bombers will be the next wave of attacks in this country [U.S.].”

With the recent bombings at the Boston Marathon, we realize that Howard Safir’s conclusion about Homicide bombers in the United States is not at all far fetched. This article discusses the profiling of suicide bombers. We will discuss what makes someone a suicide bomber, how to identify a suicide bomber, and how you can take down a suicide bomber.

Definitions
“The readiness to sacrifice one’s life in the process of destroying or attempting to destroy a target to advance a political goal. The aim of the psychologically and physically war-trained terrorist is to die while destroying the enemy target.”

“Events where the ‘success’ of the operation cannot occur without the death of the perpetrator, and he or she is apparently aware of this in advance.”

“Operational method in which the very act of the attack is dependent upon the death of the perpetrator….”

Profile
It is highly probable that much of the information you have learned about profiling suicide bombers is incorrect?

They can be:

Age wise, Preteen to mid-sixties

Both single and married with families

Both male and female

Both educated and uneducated

Not motivated by religious fanaticism

World’s leader in suicide terror are Hindu

Tamil Tigers who are conducting insurgency against Sri Lanka

Case Study Profile;
1. Moeed Abdul Salam;
Grew up in a well-off Texas household, attended a pricey boarding school and graduated from one of the state’s most respected universities.

“A classmate, Wadiya Wynn, of Laurel, Md., recalled that Salam played varsity golf, sang in an a cappella group and in the chamber choir, and that he hung out with a small group of “hippie-ish” friends. She thought he was a mediocre student, but noted that just being admitted to Suffield was highly competitive.”

2. Loula Abboud;
Was the first suicide bombers to attack Israeli forces in the Middle East: she was a secular, middle-class 19-year-old from a Christian background who blew herself up in front of a group of Israeli soldiers in Lebanon in 1985.

3. Ayat Ahkras;
Was a shy eighteen-year-old Palestinian high school student who blew herself up at a supermarket killing two people. She was a straight “A” student that was engaged to be married. She had aspirations of going to college and becoming a news reporter. Not devoutly Muslim, nor openly active in any militant groups.

In her New Yorker article writer Nasra Hassan, an international relief worker, spoke to several operatives within the Palestinian suicide-bombing network. She concluded and dismissed the ‘myth’ that young people who sacrifice themselves are poor, uneducated, simple-minded or depressed. The “living martyrs” she met were middle class — two were the sons of millionaires — well educated, employed and, within their own communities, model citizens.

The Use of Women as Suicide Bombers
“Although women make up roughly 15% of the suicide bombers within groups which utilize females, they were responsible for 65% of assassinations; 20% of women who committed a suicide attack did so with the purpose of assassinating a specific individual, compared with 04% of male attackers.”

Why female suicide bomber are being used?

“Significant evolution to our fight. The male fighters face to many obstacles.” (Ahmed Yassin 2004)

Women are less likely to be searched for suicide vests than men, whether due to perceived indecency, fear of accusations of sexual harassmentis unreasonable behavior of a sexual nature that a person (it can be a man or a woman) finds offensive or unwelcome. Sexual harassment, within the scope of the law, refers to this behavior in an educational environment or at the workplace., or fear of breaking laws that require women to remain clothed in public. See example below.

April 25, 2006: Twenty-one year old Anoja Kugenthirasah was described as “an intensely beautiful woman,” says Army Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Nanda Mallawarachchi.” She attempted to assassinate top Sri Lanka Army commander Lt. General Sarath Fonseka by blowing herself up in front of his vehicle. How did she accomplish this?

Kugenthirasah was thought to be pregnant and was able to enter the army compound under the ruse of a maternity check.

She possessed fake ID that showed she was the wife of a military clerk.

She previously attended the maternity clinic three times to establish a routine and became known to the guards. (We will learn about operations later on in the manual)

She learned the General’s daily routine and lunch schedule. (We will learn about counter-Intellaw enforcement and military abbreviation for intelligence. later on in the manual)

Her supposed pregnancy also concealed her explosive device. (We will learn about spotting a suicide bomber later on in chapter)

Clothes and Suicide Terror

Some signs that suicide bombers display can be seen in the acronym A.L.E.R.T., which stands for Alone and nervous, Loose and bulky clothing, Exposed wires, Rigid mid section, and Tighten hands. Women are becoming more involved. An example of this is the recent events surrounding the capture of an underwear suicide bomber. Suicide bombers are successful because they use their imagination and come up with different scenarios that are not expected. They are coming up with new ways to prevent ALERT detection. In 2008 the FBIUnited States Government acronym for Federal Bureau of Investigations. Jim has both received training from the FBI and has trained FBI SWAT personnel. and the DHS sent warnings about a new type of suicide tactic carried out by women who appear to be pregnant, but were really wearing pregnant prosthetic bellies filled with explosives.

Armed Neutralizing Techniques of a Suicide Terrorist

Aiming at the center massthe center of a person's body, regardless of body position; the center of the length and width., as Law Enforcement personnel are taught, won’t work on most suicide bombers (Person-Borne Improvised Explosive Device or PBIED). How to attack a PBIED is influenced by two considerations;

What area in the bomber’s body is the device attached to?

How many times will you have to stop the bomber from detonating the device.

A bomber wearing a chest bomb device does not allow the use of the center massthe center of a person's body, regardless of body position; the center of the length and width. concept, as this will detonate the bomb. The only option is the T-Zone, which is a head shot.

Non-armed Neutralizing Techniques of a Suicide Terrorist
Both Avi Nardia’s KAPAPHebrew acronym for Krav Panim el Panim (face-to-face combat), which is the first official Israeli military martial arts from which Krav Maga (touch combat) came from. Today KAPAP is used by some Israeli Special Forces units. Jim Wagner and Major Avi Nardia introduced the system to the United States in early 2001. Combatives and Jim Wagner’s Reality Based Personal Protection teach techniques to neutralize a suicide bomber. We highly recommend that you attend Jim Wagner’s Terrorismthe use of violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, or its civilian population, in the furtherance of political or social objectives. Survival Course or any of Avi Nardia’s courses. Their techniques will also be shown and better understood in my Assassination Survival live event. Here are techniques that can be used against a suicide bomber:

From behind, foot tactical the bomber in the lower spine area while lifting his legs off the ground. Instinct will cause the bomber to let go of the detonation device as he opens his hand to try to catch himself during the fall.

While you still have the bombers legs, kick the bomber in the genital area. This will disrupt OODA process and the bomber will concentrate on the pain and not on retrieving the detonation device.

Grab both of the bombers arms behind his back and lock both wrists, or tie the arms up behind the bomber’s head.

By Lynn Thompson – Cold Steel ~ In my earlier article regarding “Mouse Knives” I urged my friends and customers to examine their knife carry choices with intellectual honesty, to look at the advantages and disadvantages of their knife choice and to study what is genuinely and realistically possible with those small knives in a true life or death encounter.

My EDC (every day carry) almost always includes a Mouse Knife. I understand their limitations as well as their merits and I believe they are a useful tool and valid last ditch self-defense option that everyone should carry. But, my personal EDC also always includes multiple large knives – and today I’d like to talk about why I choose to carry those big knives.

As a Martial Artist I have been training with knives since 1978 and I’ve been exploring the potential of the Bowie knife since 1983. The study of the big knife is one of my true passions. I try to keep my training as realistic and as honest as possible and I have the pleasure and privilege of training with some of the world’s top exponents of a wide range of Martial Arts and fighting disciplines.

I often train with blades that range from 3″ to 13″ in length (bigger than that is usually a sword or a machete). Over the years I have been cut, slashed, punched, kicked, choked, bruised and bloodied uncounted times and although I try to make my training as unpleasant and as genuinely stressful as possible – even under the most debilitating pressure – I always find some small comfort when I have a Bowie Knife in my hand.

Discussing large knives could easily turn into a very lengthy essay. Blade shape, edge geometry, handle design, folding or fixed blades – it all plays a part and it all adds to the character of the knife. The subtle nuances that make it move and make it fight. I will endeavor to talk about some of these variations as concisely as I can and hopefully give you some things to consider should you ever wonder about carrying a big knife.

I have explored this subject from a variety of different viewpoints over the years. As a Martial Artist I am fascinated with the movement of the blade, the economy of motion and the manipulation of edge and point. As a keen historian I am always studying the big knife and its application throughout the ages, from the American frontiersman whose Bowie was his closest and dearest tool to the Spanish Gypsy carrying his fighting Navaja. As a hunter I have a deep understanding of the knife’s cutting potential, ability to deliver a quick and humane death and to break down and process the carcass and harvest the meat. As a fighter and a practical no-nonsense believer in an individual’s right to defend themselves I have never shied away from the reality of a confrontation involving an edged weapon.

Sometimes this discussion may become quite graphic. After all we are discussing the blood and horror of using a knife for self-defense. It’s an unpleasant subject and something I hope you never have to experience but it is always something to learn about, absorb and consider. After all, knowledge is power and ignorance is never truly blissful.

Legality is of course a primary issue and I urge everyone to learn about their local state and country laws. Not everyone enjoys the freedom I possess to openly carry a big fixed blade knife, but if you do have that option, I heartily encourage it. As I’ve said before, the world would be a very different place if every hard working, God fearing soul had a Laredo Bowie on their belt!

Before I begin, and out of great appreciation, I want to thank Dana Stamos and WorldWideDojo.com for inviting me to write my “Get Real” column. This website has a lot of great writers, great articles, and lot’s of great training tips and its nice to find all this on one web site.

Additionally, I would like to reach out to those families and neighbors who have been affected by the recent tragedies. Our hearts and prayers go out to all of you. I would like to condemn those people who we have been forced to watch on television or to hear about on news radio, the ones who have shown a total disregard for human life.

This week’s article: AMERICA – Soft Targets Among Us!

I have lived for many years and I have seen much and for this I am thankful. I have lived longer than some, and less long than others. I have traveled around the world and have met more people than I could ever count. For this, I am grateful.

In my travels, I have seen the good, the bad, and most certainly the ugly in our society, and in our world, and I am very concerned for our Nation and for our people as individuals!

Like many of you I stay busy with daily routines, and I actually had another article ready to “kick-off” my new column, “Get Real” on World Wide Dojo, but before my column was published, terror struck our nation once again. We’ve all seen it! It happened in the final moments of the Boston Marathon. Most of us sat in front of our televisions, we listened to our radios, or watch the tragic event on our computer monitors, even as we worked. We couldn’t help staring or listening in amazement and shock, as tragedy struck us once again. We felt anger, fear, sorrow, and concern as we watch the grisly scenes unfold before us. We all asked ourselves, “How is it that the greatest nation on earth could be attacked once again”? Aren’t we protected? Where are the precautions we are suppose to have in place, where are the safeguards.

At first, it was chaos at the finishing line of the Boston. Smoked filled the air and the blasts spread shrapnel everywhere. People ran to get away from the blasts, while trying to protect themselves and their loved ones. We all know that running away is a normal reaction and our basic instinct is to do so. And yet, in Boston we watched others who run towards the carnage, the destruction, in the aftermath, as the victims lay injured, crying in pain, or even dead! Those who ran toward the victim’s that day did so without thoughts of their own personal safety. They ran directly into the firestorm, into the smoke, and the carnage. Civilians, emergency responders, runners, on-lookers, and even some victims ran to those who were severely injured, maimed or dying.

They were people from all walks of life, from all over Boston and the world, people who ran to help those individuals who were injured and in need of help and comfort. Those people, ladies and gentlemen, are the true heroes, the people we all want to be and the people we all can be with the proper training.

When events such as the Boston Marathon bombings take place, they force us to ask ourselves, as American’s, who are we, that others would commit themselves to taking away our freedom, our human rights, and even our lives?

Simply put, we are known in the world of terrorismthe use of violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, or its civilian population, in the furtherance of political or social objectives. as “SOFT TARGETS”. Google or Bing the term. Take a look at the most recent posts that show up. You will see articles with the term “Soft Targets” used are all over the internet, and you will hear the term used on our news programs and on our televisions. But what does it mean?

After September 11th, 2001, America as a nation started the process of a hardening that would allow us to protect ourselves from terrorismthe use of violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, or its civilian population, in the furtherance of political or social objectives. from within or from without, but we too easily became complacent and allowed our protective armor down. One of the issues we have as a nation is that, during a crisis, Alphabet soup agencies begin to share intelligence information with one another, but over time they slip back into their closed door policies and this makes the protection of our nation much more difficult.

Several years ago, I wrote a letter to Secretary Janet Napolitano, Department of Homeland Security, regarding her recommendations to eliminate the Homeland Security Advisory System. Many of us in law enforcement or in the counter-terrorismthe use of violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, or its civilian population, in the furtherance of political or social objectives. community expressed our concerns regarding the elimination of this terrorist warning system. Our concerns were heard and a revised National Terrorismthe use of violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, or its civilian population, in the furtherance of political or social objectives. Advisory System was created. The revised system works, but the IMHO, the newer National Terrorismthe use of violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, or its civilian population, in the furtherance of political or social objectives. Advisory System, still needs to add into the mix a larger range of national readiness and response levels for our country and our agencies.

Since September 11th 2001, there have been many articles written or discussions about the subject of “Soft Targets”. Terrorist organizations like Hamas, Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and others write, publish and even create videos of manifestos, outlining their intentions to strikeimpact force generated by the arm, leg, head or impact weapon. “Soft Targets” in the United States. This is nothing new, it has been the “norm” for some time. We just don’t want to acknowledge it.

Experts in the United States have been telling us that “Terrorist Attacks” on the streets of America, like the one that took place at the Boston Marathon on April 15th 2013, are the “New Normal”, but it still shocks us. Are you shocked? You shouldn’t be!

How is it that the United States of America, the greatest nation on earth, has become a “Soft Targeta place or location which is accessible, predictable, and unaware to attack.” battlefield? Why are we so trusting of others, and so hush-hush about possible attacks on our homeland? Why is it that other nations are always on alert for such events, plan for such events, protect themselves from such events, and yet the United States remains in a “Code White World”? Why are we ripe for the pickings of countless terrorists groups (both foreign and domestic), who strikeimpact force generated by the arm, leg, head or impact weapon. us without warning? When will we learn to protect ourselves as a nation?

It is evident that we need a strategic plan to defend ourselves, and our homeland, otherwise we are sitting ducks, just waiting for the next attack. These attacks may come from sleeper cells, a jihadists group, or, in some cases, from our own home grown domestic terrorists. All of these groups lie in wait, planning to strikeimpact force generated by the arm, leg, head or impact weapon. us in the heart when we least expect it?

Is the United States of America too SOFT, COMPLACENT, APATHETIC, DISINTERESTED, CARELESS, and too TRUSTING? Are we oblivious to the fact that there are those who would deny us our freedom and our very existence. Yes to all of the above. So what do we do. We must Harden Our Soft Targets both at home and in public.

Hardening Our Soft Targets – Home

It is my belief that you should never drop your guard, never become complacent, and never give in when the wolves are at the door. We have to be ever vigilant, and forever ready! It is our responsibility to watch our own backs and the others we protect, whether in public or at home.

Hardening Our Soft Targets begins with you! That’s right! You who are tasked to protect yourself, and your loved ones against criminals, terrorists, and those who would kill or destroy us, or our way of life. And, with all due respect to our our fine law enforcement officers, there is NO duty on their part to act or protect our lives as our government would have us believe.

The question is, who is going to protect us? We are going to have to learn to protect ourselves, that’s right, you and I! We need to be prepared.

“Hardening Our Soft Targets – Home” begins with you having a “Survival Mindset”.

You must first be willing to survive, not just dependent upon others to help you to survive.

You must prepare yourself to survive the threat, any threat that occurs.

You must also prepare your family members to survive as well.

You must harden your homes by using locks, alarms, trimming of shrubs, get a dog, neighborhood watch programs, and of course, visual observation of your surroundings or others.

You must prepare your home to take a defensive stand. Know your local laws for self defense.

You must have an action plan in your home for defending yourself and your family inside your home.

You must train with a home defense firearm safely, and then you must practice often.

You must store a safe and ready defensive firearm in your home. Know how and when to use it.

You must practice often with a safe and unloaded firearm while at your defensive stand location in your home. Know what room, what coveris an object in which to get behind that will stop bullets and fragmentation., or what concealmentis an object in which to get behind in order to hide, but it may not necessarily provide cover. you will use to protect yourself and your family.

You must always keep your cell phone charged and ready to take with you to your defensive stand location. Call 911, or have a family member call 911 as needed.

You must always fight to survive, and you must protect yourselves and your love ones from any attack that might come.

You must never give up, never give in, and you must always be prepared to win the battle.

Hardening Our Soft Targets – In Public

You must prepare yourself to survive a potential threat while out in public.

You must plan for unexpected events, and you should have a plan a, b, c, d, and all the way to z, if necessary.

You must always be prepared for anything that might be unexpected, tragic or even catastrophic.

You must always know your avenues of approach, escape, and alternative routes to get you and others out of harm’s way.

You must teach yourself to watch others. Watch body movements, mannerisms or what might be construed as strange activity.

You must learn and act upon the phrase “If you see something, say something”. Then do it!

You must apply for and get trained to carry a concealed firearm. Then go through a legal purchase of a firearm. Choose the right one that will do the job for you! Ask questions.

You must get trained and licensed to carry a firearm, and then you should practice regularly with your firearm. Carry it always (as described by your local or federal laws).

You must always be cautious while out in large groups, sporting events, shopping malls or theaters, and you must watch for the suspicious activities of others.

You must ride or drive with caution, and be aware of your environment, you’re surroundings, and the activities of other drivers.

You must (if you are challenged) fight to protect yourself and others. You must survive the threat as it unfolds before you.

You must never give up, never give in, and you must always be prepared to win.

There is nothing in society more important than our ability to live without fear. We want to be able walk, run or drive in the streets of our great nation, without concern about terrorist attacks. However, the tragedies of 9/11 and the Boston Marathon have shown us that fear is justified and we should no longer be “shocked” by the “New Normal”.

We are viewed by many as being “Soft Targets,” but this does not mean that we, as “Americans,” must give up, quit, or simply give in to the ideals or beliefs of others, especially those who would deny us of our freedom and the human rights our country offers all who live here. We, as individuals, and as a nation, must learn to “stand and defend our homeland” and to fight for our lives and for the life of our great nation “from all aggressors, both foreign and domestic”.

So, ladies and gentlemen, it is time that we “GET REAL” and “STAND READY TO FIGHT” for our nation, for our families, and for our lives, and my column here on World Wide Dojo will help you do just that!

Stay Safe, Stay Ready and Stay Prepared Everyone, and don’t forget to “GET REAL”!

A student went building-to-building stabbing 14 people at the Lone Star Community College in Cypress, Texas. At least one victim is reported in critical condition.

Some reports coming out this hour say that the 21-year-old suspectperson who is believed to be committing a crime, about to commit a crime, or has committed a crime. used either an X-Acto knife or a box cutter, which is legal on campus. The suspectperson who is believed to be committing a crime, about to commit a crime, or has committed a crime. was eventually tackled and subdued until authorities took him into custody.

Before today’s incident the campus had a shooting in January where four people were injured.

Before both of these incidents a Texas state senator filed legislation to allow concealed handguns on the state’s college campuses so criminals who go on a killing rampage will not have a target rich environment in a “Gun Free Zone.” The thought is that if a person, or persons, are massacring people an armed citizen can stop the carnage.

Since the Sandy Hook School shooting on December 12, 2012 politicians and the mainstream media have insisted on stricter gun control to “protect our children,” because 20 children were fatally shot by mentally disturbed Adam Lanza. Every time there has been a gun incident in the United States the headlines start off “GUN VIOLENCE,” as if somehow that time of violence is the worse kind. I wonder if we are going to see four months of the same outcry against “KNIFE VIOLENCE,” and a call for stricter knife control. If this were the United Kingdom, yes, but in America there will be no outrage against knives. People will just say, “Well, the criminal could have used and similar weapon.”

Of course, in America there are 300,000 million firearms. Even if all guns were banned today criminals and terrorists can get anything on the black market. Just south of the border, in Mexico, they have strict gun control laws, and yet killings with firearms, including all out street warfare with government units, is commonplace.

Anyone who has taken my KNIFE SURVIVAL course knows that a close range a knife is just as lethal as a firearm. Armed police officers get injured or killed by people with knives every year. The last two links will show you step-by-step how to survive a knife attack. Be A

As a student of Japanese swordsmanship, it’s clear that “To Study the Old is To Understand the New.” I was an “Uchi-deshi” for almost 8 years in Japan, under sword Master Sensei Kubo Akira, and I have followed him for the last 30 years. I witnessed his skill in front of me everyday and it was inspiring. He demonstrated his mastery as my teacher with every move, every breath. As he taught, he’d often speak of Nakayama Hakudo, also known as Nakayama Hiromichi, Soke of Muso Shinden Ryu. This is why I also teach my students Arts and Crafts. You cannot teach, you can ONLY study.

When I moved to Los Angeles I searched for a teacher that could keep this spirit and inspiration, and I found Professor John Machado. Professor Machado always taught me that Brazilian Ju Jitsu needed to flow with good spirit and good attitude and that you needed to maintain your own health. BJJ is an inspiring way of life and is all about having a good quality life.

I was never a student of Carlos Gracie, Sr., but I can say that I do study a lot and am inspired by him, even though I have never met him in person. I have felt his spirit in every BJJ class with my teacher. We used to joke back then and we would call it “story time” as Professor Machado would sit and share stories, inspirations, and things from his heart. He would share with his students while some kept rolling, or some would sit nearby. I used to go home and make a list of what I needed to keep studying. Not so much the techniques, as I always had techniques in my mind, and was always getting them right and wrong! It was more about the timing and where you’d plan to use them. That’s the key, because if you use great technique with the wrong timing, it would be like using the wrong tool for the wrong job. This I’d already studied with one of my most inspired and inspiring teachers, Hanshi Patrick McCarthy. Hanshi McCarthy always looked to build a bridge between the Old Days Traditional Martial Arts and the Modern Martial Arts, using flow as used in Aiki Kenpo. When I found BJJ, it was the best fit for me but it also showed the flow as in Aiki Flow – all the way from standing to ground.

Professor John Machado always spoke of “Uncle, Carlos Gracie” who was possibly the single most important figure in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu history. He was the very first Gracie to germinate the roots of BJJ, Japanese Jiu Jitsu. Carlos Gracie was known by his nickname “Pai Branco”, which means “White Father” in Portuguese, by family and friends. This was the name his brothers and close family called him due to his habit of wearing white at all times and because he was considered the head of the clan, it’s fatherly figure. He was the weak student his father brought to Maeda Sensei, using the stage name of Count Coma. Count Coma, Misuyio Esai Maeda, was a Jiu Jitsu/Judo representative sent to Brazil by Japan to share Jiu Jitsu with the world.
He had lots of stories, from Nutrition to Health, about how to flow, and I was inspired most about nature studies and human studies by this great teacher and his stories. He would tell stories of how he’d swim in the river with alligators, or how he developed mental training and stamina that would change him from the white chicken and train him to be the war chicken.
I am inspired by Carlos Gracie’s 12 commandments, and would like to share them here:

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

Speak to everyone of happiness, health and prosperity.

Give all of your friends the feeling that they are valuable

Always look at events from a positive point of view, and turn positivity into a reality in life.

Think always in the best, work solely for the best and expect always the best.

Always be as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

Forget about past mistakes and concentrate your energies on the victories ahead.

Always keep your fellow men joyful and have a pleasant attitude to all that address you.

Spend all the time you need in perfecting yourself, but leave no time to criticize the others.

Become too big to feel unrest, too noble to feel anger, too strong to feel fear and too happy to tumble in adversity.

Always have a positive opinion about yourself and tell it to the world, not through words of vanity but through benevolence.

Have the strong belief that the world is beside you if you keep true to what is best within you.

This all came back to me during my last training with Hanshi McCarthy while I was looking into more study between swordsmanship, Judo, Jiu Jutsu and BJJ. In looking at today’s Modern Martial Arts, we must excel at what we do and what we teach and with what ‘messages’ we will and must pass on to the next generations.

One of my ‘messages’ was to develop a new knife based on this whole study. The new knife is made by Fox knifes in Italy and it’s called the “Israeli Tracker: KAPAPHebrew acronym for Krav Panim el Panim (face-to-face combat), which is the first official Israeli military martial arts from which Krav Maga (touch combat) came from. Today KAPAP is used by some Israeli Special Forces units. Jim Wagner and Major Avi Nardia introduced the system to the United States in early 2001..” This knife was developed from many ideas, beginning with my own history.

My father was a combat paratrooper. The background color of his wings was red (as opposed to blue) signifying that he actually made combat drops. This is rare, since most paratroopers train but do not actually deploy into combat in this fashion. As such, I grew up amongst the first paratroopers of the IDF, absorbing their culture, their history, their stories and pictures from the old days. One picture I have never forgotten is that of the platoon training knife-fighting in the 1950’s, when KAPAPHebrew acronym for Krav Panim el Panim (face-to-face combat), which is the first official Israeli military martial arts from which Krav Maga (touch combat) came from. Today KAPAP is used by some Israeli Special Forces units. Jim Wagner and Major Avi Nardia introduced the system to the United States in early 2001., Krav Panim El Panim/Face-to-Face combat, was the close-combat system used in the IDF. As we re-developed it and started to re-introduce it throughout the world to the civilian market, this picture kept popping up again and again in my mind as the start of KAPAPHebrew acronym for Krav Panim el Panim (face-to-face combat), which is the first official Israeli military martial arts from which Krav Maga (touch combat) came from. Today KAPAP is used by some Israeli Special Forces units. Jim Wagner and Major Avi Nardia introduced the system to the United States in early 2001.. The picture is that of my father, which I adapted into my logo. I carry my father’s memory and tradition. This ‘shadow’ of the knife has followed me since I was a small child. I remember how my father used the knife outdoors and indoors as a heavy duty knife.
I enlisted in the army in 1980 and was challenged to go to war in 1982. I served in a war zone for two years, and my father’s knife was always on my military vest. When I left the army, I gave my knife

to a Lt. Colonel friend as a present. I then traveled to Japan to study Japanese Martial Arts for almost 8 years. I became a 6th Dan in Japanese swordsmanship and a 7th Dan in Aiki Kenpo Jutsu. I have done different martial arts, but I always see myself as a Combat and swordsmanship teacher.

My school of swordsmanship is that of giving life. When I started to teach Combat, I noticed that many were teaching how to kill with a knife and explained the knife in the wrong way. You can kill with a stone… but the knife is the most important tool for humans. We use it for our survival everyday. By connecting my personal history, my way of life, and my principles, as well as a deep study of swordsmanship and knife fighting from the masters, I developed ideas as to what would constitute the ideal all around knife. Based on the origin of the knife, and with my experiences as an Olympic fencing coach and knife fighting teacher, as well as Japanese swordsmanship, I started to design this knife which would be the basis for a workshop we teach in KAPAPHebrew acronym for Krav Panim el Panim (face-to-face combat), which is the first official Israeli military martial arts from which Krav Maga (touch combat) came from. Today KAPAP is used by some Israeli Special Forces units. Jim Wagner and Major Avi Nardia introduced the system to the United States in early 2001. called “Only Knife.” Students will take only a knife and go into the woods by themselves and survive. The design of the knife had to be one that was not only effective as a weapon, but it would also have to encompass other capabilities: to allow one to build their own shelter, to get their food, to get their water, to help them build a fire, and take care of all their needs to survive. The idea is that with my Fighting knife you can not only kill but also save lives and survive. This is the main idea for this knife – to give life, not to take a life.

KAPAPHebrew acronym for Krav Panim el Panim (face-to-face combat), which is the first official Israeli military martial arts from which Krav Maga (touch combat) came from. Today KAPAP is used by some Israeli Special Forces units. Jim Wagner and Major Avi Nardia introduced the system to the United States in early 2001. is not a conventional system. It is a bridge between systems: it’s a philosophy and a concept. KAPAPHebrew acronym for Krav Panim el Panim (face-to-face combat), which is the first official Israeli military martial arts from which Krav Maga (touch combat) came from. Today KAPAP is used by some Israeli Special Forces units. Jim Wagner and Major Avi Nardia introduced the system to the United States in early 2001. was not designed as a belt ranking system, or to create new Masters and Grand Masters. There are more than enough systems that do this. As a bridge, KAPAPHebrew acronym for Krav Panim el Panim (face-to-face combat), which is the first official Israeli military martial arts from which Krav Maga (touch combat) came from. Today KAPAP is used by some Israeli Special Forces units. Jim Wagner and Major Avi Nardia introduced the system to the United States in early 2001.’s goal is to unite Martial Artists from different disciplines so that they will be able to communicate and share knowledge as brothers-in-arms. We wish to do this without conflicthuman hostilities that range from visual intimidation to killing; replaces the martial arts term "fight" because not all human hostilities end in physical violence., ego or politics based on common martial art principles.

Someone told me “There are no bad students, only bad teachers.” I wonder what these bad teachers were before they became bad teachers? I think they may have been bad students. And today, with ‘No Roots’ systems, we get so many Grand Masters of Everything, and that is really Nothing.

There are so many YouTube and Facebook ‘internet’ or ‘keyboard’ warriors and Grand Masters that are in Martial Arts for a only few days seemingly, and they all slander great people and teachers. These same teachers have been in the Martial arts for most of their lives! My friend Sam Markey told me a story about someone that had asked him if he could fight two or three attackers and he said “I can fight one lion, but not one-hundred Rabbits – True is On the Mat!” There are not so many teachers today as there are too many organizations, and running those organizations has become more important than teaching.

“An army of sheep led by a lion is better than an army of lions led by a sheep.” Alexander the Great

I love being a teacher and will continue to fight to remain a teacher and not a business organization. One of my main teachers is Nature. This is why we are doing lots of survival and bushcraft workshops, as no art or craft can really teach and you can only study, and your skills will be tested for real. It’s the same with Martial Arts. People try to over-sell themselves in the Martial Arts like this: There was one legendary teacher and this one student had been his best student, but since the teacher is now dead, they are the new Grand Master of that teacher’s life-work. But it’s never like that. Most good students also had something in them to create, explore and study and this is why most of today’s modern Grand Masters should remember that they are here to carry the flame, not the ash. Carry the Sprit. This is why I try teach all 3 elements: Body, Mind and Spirit. It’s the same as carrying the three circles of Martial Arts: Traditional, Combative and Sport.

Always remember that techniques can work or they can fail. They are dependent on the situation, on proper timing and also what target that you choose to hit. It may be wrong, but it can also be right at the same time. Trust free-fight sparring and not theoryself-defense techniques that the participant has never applied in a real self-defense situation. or static practice. Truth is always discovered on the Mat by trying and mostly by studying through failing: You can hit this way and you can hit that way, with an open hand or a closed hand. The experience of free-fighting, action/reaction, standing to ground fighting, using a weapon or no weapon, strikes or no strikes, Gi or No Gi – lessons can be learned, even when you fail.

Stay away from those cowards that say things like: “We are not a sports Martial Art” or “We are not a traditional Martial Art, we are a no-nonsense Martial Art” or “No Referee, No Tap, No Rules.” These slogans only show FEAR, as we all understand that we can kick someone in the groin or poke his eyes in a real fight. But, have you forgotten about the other guys skills? The advantage of a fighting sport with a referee and Tap Out rules is that it only gives you one way to challenge yourself and your fears. By hiding behind these slogans, you are not getting better prepared. By failing to prepare, you prepare to fail. Nature has no mercy at all, if it’s going be snowing and you get dressed in only your underwear, it’s still going to snow and you will still need to deal with it. To study nature, to love nature and to flow with nature — this is why nature can be such a great teacher. Pain is also a good teacher, but no one wants to learn this in a class!

Study yourself, improve your skills. Survival gives you so many ways to train your spirit to get stronger. To feel fear is normal and necessary, it is nature’s way of giving you that extra shot of energy. Knowledge is the first step in overcoming your fear. By placing yourself in nature, you can study and learn to use your thinking in survival situations. Panic can cause humans to act without thinking.

I would like share some quotes and words of wisdom and then end this ‘lesson’ with “Mokuso.” Each traditional class starts and ends with it.

Nature gets you to bully yourself. Challenge yourself, not others.

“He who knows others is wise. He who knows himself is enlightened.” ~ Lao Tzu

Great people and inspired people are said to stay away from evil.

“I would rather be a little nobody, than to be an evil somebody.” ~ Abraham Lincoln

“There are many things worth living for, a few things worth dying for, and nothing worth killing for.” ~ Tom Robbins

“When people hurt you over and over, think of them like sandpaper. They may scratch and hurt you a bit, but in the end, you end up polished and they end up useless.” ~ Anonymous

“Life is a fight, but not everyone’s a fighter. Otherwise, bullies would be an endangered species.” ~ Andrew Vachss

“With ignorance comes fear – from fear comes bigotry. Education is the key to acceptance.”
Kathleen Patel

“What if the kid you bullied at school, grew up, and turned out to be the only surgeon who could
save your life?” ~ Lynette Mather

“If there are no heroes to save you, then you be the hero.” ~ Denpa Kyoshi

“You can have no dominion greater or less than that over yourself.” ~ Leonardo da Vinci

“You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.” ~ Winston Churchill

As I have mentioned many times, the first thing to study from history is that we do not study from history! Keep away from evil and the Martial Arts that try to teach you to be a bully or evil.

“Don’t carry a weapon – be a weapon.” ~ Avi Nardia

This is how we train, to be the weapon, by using our brain, and with mental training like that taught in survival studies. All KapapHebrew acronym for Krav Panim el Panim (face-to-face combat), which is the first official Israeli military martial arts from which Krav Maga (touch combat) came from. Today KAPAP is used by some Israeli Special Forces units. Jim Wagner and Major Avi Nardia introduced the system to the United States in early 2001. training strives for the concept of not depending on any weapon other than ourselves. Like the sandpaper quote above, you become the weapon by a slow process of the body, mind and spirit all being polished.
Understand the purpose of Mokuso in the opening and closing Reshiki.

“Mokuso is the Japanese term for meditation. It is performed before beginning a training session in order to “clear one’s mind” of the distractions of their everyday life, and is similar to Mushin, a Zen concept. This is more formally known to mean, “Warming up the mind for training hard.” We repeat Mokuso at the end of the training session when we practice a moment of introspection.

Introspection is the self-examination of your conscious thoughts and feelings. Introspection can be referenced in a spiritual/martial context as the examination of your spirit. Introspection is related to the philosophical concept of human self-reflection, and is contrasted with external observation.”

TIT for TAT: A WAY OF LIFE
TIT for TAT is more than just a Martial Art; it is a way of life.

Through mental and physical training. TIT for TAT transforms peoples’ character and helps individuals develop strong resilient spirits. It also creates and nurtures leadership skills and the ability to persevere through difficult tasks. These skills help TIT for TAT pupils in their everyday lives.

Leadership skills and a strong spirit help create confidence in individuals.

Confidence becomes instilled in students as they develop good technique and are able to share with others by teaching. Confidence helps people achieve the goals they set for themselves. Confidence also helps to produce patience and modesty within individuals.

Patience is an invaluable trait. TIT for TAT develops patience in practitioners through the repetition of training. Students learn to bear or endure pain, trouble, adversity, and inconvenience without complaining or soling self-control.

Many people look upon modesty with admiration. TIT for TAT promotes modesty. It is taught through example, rather than by words alone. TIT for TAT does not encourage arrogance or self-promotion. Instead, it encourages practitioners to be humble and act as role models. One is reminded that a modest person is someone that is liked by all.

TIT for TAT fosters a resilient spirit, leadership skills, self-confidence, patience, and modesty. These qualities provide the foundation for a person of solid character.

Throughout life, character becomes the basis by which a person is often measured. TIT for TAT is an instrument that refines and improves ones character. The qualities that students learn in TIT for TAT become attributes valuable in everyday life.
